MGM Assurance, the mutual life assurance society, has appointed Laurie Edmans as Deputy Chairman.
Laurie Edmans has spent a distinguished career in financial services. He began his career with Cigna Group/Crusader Insurance, where he worked in administration, sales and general management before joining National Provident Institution in 1989, eventually becoming deputy chief executive. He then moved to Aegon UK, where he was director of corporate development at his retirement in June 2006.
Edmans is a former member of the ABI Life Insurance Management Council and Chairman of the joint working group on pensions. He is a founding board member of the Pensions Regulator; a non-executive director of CPA Supervisory Ltd and a director of IFA Promotion Limited. He was recently appointed Chairman of the Safe Home Income Plans group (SHIP), which represents 90 per cent of the UK’s equity release sector, and was a special adviser to the recently published Thoresen Review of generic financial advice. Edmans remains a trustee of a number of occupational pension schemes and was awarded the CBE for services to pensions reform in the 2006 New Year’s Honours List.
